Landslide sign

URS, the engineering firm that the City of Los Angeles has hired to reconstruct Paseo del Mar at the White Point Landslide location, is holding a community briefing meeting on October 28.

The community is invited to bring ideas, suggestions, and questions on what URS should be aware of or consider in their developing designs. Individual comments will be accepted in writing only. Hilton Yee, senior project manager of URS, will lead the meeting.

The City of Los Angeles contracted with URS (now merged with AECOM) to do pre-design work and develop a permanent solution for reconstructing Paseo del Mar.  According to URS, funding for construction has not been identified, nor has a Continue reading

UPDATE 09/12: The 9/16 meeting has been postponed. Stay tuned for the rescheduling information.

Last week, several community leaders got together for a meeting to discuss the future of Paseo del Mar and the White Point Landslide area. The City of Los Angeles has hired URS/AECOM to design a rebuild of Paseo del Mar in the location where it was previously (not re-routed through the White Point Nature Preserve). The estimated cost of this project is $50 million, among the highest budgeted long-term options announced in June 2012.

URS Corporation and the City of L.A. Bureau of Engineer Geotechnical Division will be holding a Community Briefing on the Paseo del Mar (White Point) Landslide Permanent Restoration Project next week. Continue reading

Volunteers needed!

Most of us have visited the White Point Nature Preserve a few times, if not many times, to enjoy the trails and incredible views. This Saturday, July 19, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is hosting a volunteer day to remove unused irrigation lines to clear trails and beautify the site. They could use more volunteers, especially from the neighborhood.

Many candidates declined to respond (Dave Behar, Cari Lynn Burich, James Dimon, Chuck Hawley, Dan Malstrom, Chris Nagle, Ted Shirley, Sonya Tsujimura, John Vidovich, and Rachel Waugh) and a handful could not be reached (Mike Cammareri, Denise Marovich-Sampson, and Matt Matich). However, the following five statements are from the candidates that took time to respond to Ms. Rannells inquiry:
