Representatives from the Legends Car Club spoke at the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council (CSPNC) meeting this week regarding this year’s Car Show by the Sea event which supports many local organizations. Changes for next years event were proposed so as to make a smaller impact on the community.
Some of the proposed changes to the 2016 event:
Stage cars prior to the event in Angels Gate Park, instead of Paseo del Mar.
One-day waiver of the no parking signs on the north side of Paseo del Mar (from Gaffey to Roxbury). This year LAPD handed out approximately 100 parking citations.
Move the LAPD command post from the corner of Gaffey and Paseo del Mar up to Angels Gate Park by the Korean Bell.
URS, the engineering firm that the City of Los Angeles has hired to reconstruct Paseo del Mar at the White Point Landslide location, is holding a community briefing meeting on October 28.
The community is invited to bring ideas, suggestions, and questions on what URS should be aware of or consider in their developing designs. Individual comments will be accepted in writing only. Hilton Yee, senior project manager of URS, will lead the meeting.

UPDATE 09/12: The 9/16 meeting has been postponed. Stay tuned for the rescheduling information.
Last week, several community leaders got together for a meeting to discuss the future of Paseo del Mar and the White Point Landslide area. The City of Los Angeles has hired URS/AECOM to design a rebuild of Paseo del Mar in the location where it was previously (not re-routed through the White Point Nature Preserve). The estimated cost of this project is $50 million, among the highest budgeted long-term options announced in June 2012.
One of the hottest topics in the neighborhood lately (other than the weather) is the presence of coyotes in our coastal town.
At the July Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council (CSPNC) meeting, CSPNC President James Dimon announced briefly that coyotes will be trapped at White Point Nature Preserve. At this Monday’s meeting, California Department of Fish and Wildlife Southern Enforcement District Lieutenant Kent Smirl will speak about implementing a Wildlife Watch program.
This month’s CSPNC meeting will be held under the stars on Monday, August 17 at 6:30pm at the Point Fermin Park bandshell. There will be food and beverage for those who show up early.
Do you have questions or concerns about coyotes? If so, please attend the meeting. Other topics of discussion will be the future of the Red Car, a potluck beach party, and neighborhood watch porch candle program. Download the full agenda on the CSPNC website.
