Meetings regarding parks, San Pedro High School, and coyotes

There are three meetings coming up that residents may be interested in attending.

The Angels Gate Park Advisory Board will be holding a meeting Tuesday, January 31 from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm at the Angels Gate Park Office at 3601 S. Gaffey St. On the agenda are discussions of Wilder’s Annex, White Point Nature Preserve, and Hey Rookie Pool. Check out the full agenda on the Angels Gate Park Advisory Board Facebook page.

LAUSD will be hosting a community meeting to review preliminary design concepts for a renovation of San Pedro High School. The meeting takes place on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:00 pm at the San Pedro High School Auditorium at 1001 W 15th St. If you would like more information call Teresa Akins at FSD Community Relations at 213-241-1326 or Teresa.Akins@lausd.net.

L.A. County Department of Parks and Recreation presents Living With Urban Coyotes on Thursday, February 2 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Wildlife Specialist Colleen MacKay will be discussing issues and concerns relating to coyotes. The Deane Dana Friendship Park Nature Center is located at 1805 W. 9th St. For more information contact 310-519-6115 or hinzunza@parks.lacounty.gov.

Olguin pool opening for the summer

The Olguin pool at San Pedro High School’s Olguin campus will be open for the summer starting Saturday, June 11. The pool will be open through August 14 thanks to a partnership between LAUSD and the City of L.A.’s Recreation and Parks Department.

Olguin Pool to open this weekend

Olguin Pool Public Opening Invitation

This Saturday the public is invited to the public opening of the Olguin Pool.

This Saturday June 13 is the long awaited public opening of the Olguin Pool. The public is invited to attend the ceremonies starting at 12:30pm. Council District 15 Councilman Joe Buscaino, LAUSD Board President Dr. Richard Vladovic and representatives from the Department of Recreation and Parks and Kaiser Permanente are scheduled to be in attendance.

Lap swimming and recreational swimming are available for individual entry fees ($1-3.50) or multiple-use passes ($10–87.50). Pool activities will also include novice swim and diving teams, junior lifeguard training, and private, semi-private and group swim lessons for children and adults. See the schedule below. The LAUSD Board of Education has identified San Pedro High School (SPHS) to be one of its initial new comprehensive modernization projects.

There will be a project planning meeting on Wednesday, June 3 at 6:00 pm SPHS to share knowledge of the project and gather community input. Parent, neighbors, and community stakeholders are invited to attend.

Olguin Campus pool dates & hours

The following is a list of requested dates and hours for the public use of the San Pedro High School Olguin Campus pool. The hours are not yet set in stone and are subject to last minute changes.

Olguin campus pool to open to residents

LAUSD will be opening the pool at the San Pedro High School’s John and Muriel Olguin camps to the public this summer. Details are still being worked out with the Department of Recreation and Parks. The pool will most likely be available to the public from June through August.

Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino found the money for staffing and programming while LAUSD District 7 Board President, Dr. Richard Vladovic found the money for maintenance and operational costs during the summer months.

More details will be announced when available.

Gaffey Street Pool plans

An overview of what the proposed Gaffey Street Pool renovations will look like on completion.

In the meantime, work is ongoing at the Gaffey Street Pool which will also be available during the summer months starting in 2016.
