Are CSPNC Communications Committee budget proposals too much?

UPDATE #2: The meeting has been rescheduled. Please see below for the new date/time.

UPDATE: I found the most current CSPNC budget not available on the Neighborhood Council’s website but on a Neighborhood Watch Facebook page. It is vastly different than the latest budget available on so the numbers below have been updated to reflect this new information. Please note that Neighborhood Purpose Grants and Community Improvement Projects account for 41% of the new budget.

2015-2016 budget v3.0 2016-2017 budget
This Friday evening, the Communications Committee of the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council (CSPNC) is holding a meeting to propose $12,500 in outreach spending. This spending would be for video production, welcome signage, public safety parties, and resident data collection. Some of the outreach items not included in this proposal are the already budgeted items of $13,750 $4,300 for newsletters, meeting expenses, and website maintenance. That brings the outreach expenditure total to a minimum of $26,250 $16,800.

The entire CSPNC budget for the year is only $37,000. If these proposals by the Communications Committee are approved, where will be the money for Neighborhood Purpose Grants, Community Improvement Projects, or basic operational expenses? the outreach budget would be at least 45% of the total NC budget.

How would you like to see the CSPNC spend $37,000? How about using some of that money for Community Improvement Projects that would open the door to projects by homeowner groups, neighborhood watch groups, parent/teacher associations, service clubs, etc. who are ineligible to apply for Neighborhood Purpose Grants but have a significant stake in the neighborhood? How about tree planting parties or movie nights in the park or community awards ceremony for best drought-tolerant landscape, best community volunteer, business of the year, etc.?
