Crime rates have gone up significantly in all Los Angeles Police Department divisions this year. In the Harbor Division, overall violent crime was up 34 percent, and property crimes went up nearly 17 percent.
L.A. City District 15 Councilman Joe Buscaino will be presenting the Los Angeles Forum on Crime on Thursday, February 4 at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro.
The speakers will be LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, LAPD Police Commission President Matthew Johnson, and Assistant Commanding Officer of South Bureau Phillip Tingirides. There will be a panel of city representatives led by Mona Sutton, owner of the Omelette and Waffle and chair of the harbor area Community Police Advisory Board. Another panel will be led by LAPD Harbor Division Sergeant Catherine Plows.
The speakers will address the new challenges of policing cities which are enduring a rise in crime. There will also be discussion regarding the Harbor Division jail.
