Peggy and Bruce Lindquist, owners of The Corner Store, give a lot to our community and are completely humble about it. From frequently holding fundraisers for the Point Fermin Lighthouse and Marine Mammal Care Center to rescuing wayward dogs to giving jobs to neighborhood kids to collecting supplies for pinnipeds to hosting the community share library, group meetings, and community celebrations such as Santa visits, community clean-ups, neighborhood watch meetings, etc.
They remind me of that bumper sticker “Think globally. Act locally.”
Here’s your chance to give back to Peggy and Bruce, our unsung heroes of the Palisades neighborhood.
Local resident and president of the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council (CSPNC), James Dimon, is organizing a beautification project to help out Peggy and Bruce. James got Coppa Woodworking involved — they are fixing up the front doors and making two new screen doors for the entrance for no charge. Terry Katnich of South Shores Ace Hardware is donating materials and paint to spruce up the front of The Corner Store.
James is also looking to replace the sign on the front of the building with an identical sign in aluminum and polyurethane. He still needs to raise about $800 in donations to achieve that goal. He’s also looking for some volunteers who are good at patching stucco, have a paint sprayer, and have scaffolding for a mid-May beautification weekend. If you are interested in helping out, email James Dimon.
