Today there was a briefing on the White Point landslide attended by Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Councilman Joe Buscaino, Army Corps of Engineers Colonel R. Mark Toy and representatives from the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council and U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher’s office. Department of Public Works Harbor Area District Engineer Lawrence Cuaresma led the group into the fenced off area of the landslide for a close up view and briefing.
The Army Corps of Engineers will be waiting until the final draft of the geotechnical report is released to the public in the middle to end of May before deciding whether federal funds will be made available.
Currently, the 26 monitoring stations are checked monthly in addition to after a rain storm for any earth movement. Councilman Joe Buscaino has released a video report (below).
The CSPNC White Point Landslide Committee will be holding their next meeting this Wednesday, April 4 at 5:00pm at the Marine Exchange, 3601 S. Gaffey St., San Pedro, CA 90731. Residents are welcome.
We will be updating you when more information becomes available.
